NV MATH SUMMIT ELEMENTARY TEAM (23)

RUBY NORLAND (Team Lead)

I began my teaching career with CCSD in 2001. I taught 3rd, 4th, 5th and middle school math. I also had an opportunity work with teachers, providing PD in math as a Project Facilitator. Two years ago, I began my journey as an Assistant Principal at Somerset Academy. I thoroughly enjoy working with teachers and being around students all day!

I started my teaching career here in Nevada after attending the University of Nevada Reno. I have been working for CCSD for the past 19 years. Being a project facilitator in the K - 12 Mathematics Department at CPD has given me great opportunities to plan and deliver professional development for student-centered learning of the NVACS.

This is my 18th year in education. I've had the opportunity to teach elementary students, grad students, and teachers. Learning math with adults and children is my passion. Always questioning and problem solving to learn more. "The more you know the more you don't know." Excited for this summit and the opportunity to learn more from all of you!

I've been with CCSD for 19 years as a student, teacher, or instructional coach. I enjoy running and spending time with my husband and two daughters. Math's my favorite to teach and learn - it opens minds to new ways of thinking and collaborating and brings out creativity in all students. I'm excited to be a part of this Summit, because well, MATH!

My career began in CCSD teaching 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grade. My curiosity about finding ways to make math meaningful for students drove me to make a difference. I LOVED hearing students "pose questions" and have "ahah" moments in mathematics. Working as a "math coach" for RPDP gives me the opportunity to support teachers in their own math practice.

As a teacher in CCSD for 14 years I’ve split my time between 2nd and 5th grade. Currently, I am teaching 5th grade as a departmentalized math teacher and could never imagine my job any other way. Being able to focus on one subject has allowed me to dig into the standards and learn to teach them effectively.
